Remote Backup Systems Adds Continuous Data Protection to Mercury OEM Online Backup

Remote Backup Systems, developer of the RBackup and Mercury OEM Online Backup platforms, today announced that it has added Continuous Data Protection (CDP) to its Mercury OEM Online Backup platform, and developed an AMI to run Mercury in the Amazon Cloud.

CDP allows the Mercury to fully protect end users’ valuable computer data with no interaction from the end user at all. After the Mercury Agent is installed, it simply backs up files as they are added or changed.

As an introductory offer for new users, RBS is offering a 25% discount on the base price of a Mercury server through the end of March 2009.

“The new CDP function greatly simplifies the end-user experience,” explained Rob Cosgrove, CEO, “This makes Mercury a truly set-and-forget data protection solution.”

The company has also added the ability for end users to select their own file retention policy. Users can now set their accounts to keep any number of versions of their files for periods of time from one week to ten years.

“Our exclusive long-term, configurable file retention policy gives our MSP and SaaS providers unprecedented control over data archiving and storage space usage,” said Cosgrove, “We’ve also built an Amazon AMI (Amazon Machine Image) for the latest release, which allows us to deploy a complete Mercury system in the Amazon Cloud for a new MSP within a day or two. In other words, we can put a company in the Online Backup business with live software, in one of the best Data Centers in the world, in about two days.”

Mercury is being offered as a turnkey solution to companies who want to enter the booming Online Backup market. It is a powerful, white-labeled Online Backup software system with features and functionality designed to compete with the most well-known consumer grade online backup services being sold today.
