Remote Backup Systems Joins with TVA to Go Completely Green
Remote Backup Systems Inc. (RBS), the originator of remote online backup technology, today announced that it is the first company in Shelby County, TN, to completely erase the electricity consumption of its office building by joining the Green Power Switch® program with the Tennessee Valley Authority. The Green Power Switch program allows businesses and consumers to purchase power from completely renewable sources, including wind and solar, that do not produce hydrocarbon emissions in exchange for slightly higher monthly charges.
The program is a cooperative effort among the TVA, local public power companies and the environmental community as a convenient way to bring green power to area electricity customers. Participation in the Green Power Switch program is the latest move by RBS to fulfill its obligations as a good corporate citizen.
The company also created the Geeks for Relief coalition to protect vulnerable businesses during hurricane season. Formed in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Geeks for Relief is supported by members of the RBS worldwide network of more than 8,000 professional remote backup service providers who utilize the company’s RBackup® SOFTWARE to provide totally free online data backup services to businesses and individuals located in hurricane-prone areas throughout the United States.
