New RBackup v10.2 Adds Exchange 2010, Active Directory 2008

I am happy to announce tomorrow’s release of RBackup v10.2, adding native protection for Exchange 2010 and Active Directory 2008 through Volume Shadow Copy. This long-anticipated version also adds VSS support for multiple volumes and native SQL Server differential backups.

Rob Cosgrove, CEO Remote Backup Systems

While all that is cool, it is more or less expected – keeping up with current technology. At first we resisted enabling VSS support in favor of our own built-in system level drivers. In the end, though, our Service Providers convinced us it was a good idea to use both.

So, version 10.2 adds all the goodness of VSS to our tried-and-true global open files drivers for a smart, complete solution to backing up ALL Windows files and databases no matter what state they are in.

But our development geniuses didn’t stop there.

Version 10.2 also includes a new feature called Local Mirror. This feature enables RBackup to keep a full copy of all the files it stores online, on a locally-attached hard drive. At restore time RBackup will get files from the fastest source – the local hard drive, if available – making restores lightning fast.

Multiple clients can share a single mirror drive. For maximum offsite redundancy the mirror drive can be located across a VPN at another location, giving customers two offsite storage locations – one inside their networks, and one outside.

The built-in Disk Restore Utility can restore directly from the mirror drive, without the need to first re-install the RBackup software.

We also added a new Maximum File Size Limit. This will allow Service Providers to specify the largest file users are allowed to back up. This feature is useful when designing less expensive service plans that need more limits than full service business plans.

That’s all for this release, but that’s definitely not all we have planned. You will be delighted and amazed at what we are working on for our next release later this month!

If your Maintenance Subscription is active you can download the RBackup v10.2 upgrade after noon Central Time on May 5 on our website.
