Remote Backup Systems Inc. (RBS), the originator of online backup technology, has announced the release of a new Virtual Hosting service using version 10 of its award-winning RBackup® Online Backup Software.
RBS Virtual Hosting is an alternative to purchasing hardware and software to operate an Online Backup service. Virtual Service Providers distribute RBS’ industry leading Remote Backup Client software to their customers, who back up to RBS’ data centers. VSPs maintain their own customer relationships, determine their own end-user pricing, and distribute software with their own branding.
“Many of our eight thousand-plus service providers have asked us to offer Virtual Hosting,” explained Rob Cosgrove, CEO, “Sometimes they have bigger clients than they can handle with their own data centers, or they simply want to get out from under the problems of managing a data center.”
Virtual Service Providers manage their accounts through a web-based portal that gives them the ability to customize their client software, build installers on the fly, run reports, do recurring billing, and sell Online Backup services from their web site by linking the Portal with their credit card processor.
Virtual Hosting accounts have a $750 startup fee, and are charged $5 per month per client license used, plus storage fees that range from $1.50/gigabyte to $5/gigabyte, depending on volume.
The software they distribute is RBackup Version 10, which supports brick-level backups and restores of open Exchange 2003 and 2007 databases, live backups of SQL Server and MS Outlook, Active Directory, System State, open and locked files, and regular files and folders.
