Making your Evaluation Quick and Trouble Free
Here are some quick tips for making your evaluation of RBS software quick and trouble free.

RBackup Remote Backup software comes as two modules – a Server, and Clients. The Server software has been installed on your computer. It will receive backups from Client software running on other computers.
Along with the Server software, this computer also contains a copy your Client installer, where you can customize and brand it for your business, and then compile it into a single .EXE file that you can use to install your Client software on other computers. However, you don’t have to customize the Client software to test it. You can download a pre-configured Client installer here: http://dl.remote-backup.com/rbsclient.exe
Read the Directions. We know, you want to start testing right away. Please at least review the Quick Start documents and pay attention to the installation messages. RBackup has many features and settings. It is an advanced, secure, commercial internet backup system that cannot be properly tested without a little reading.
Be careful selecting files for backup. Do not select entire drives. Select only critical data files, folders, and databases. Selecting too many noncritical files for backup will make your backups and restores take too long to be practical. It is not necessary to back up Windows System files, the Recycle Bin, temporary folders, swap files, etc.
Set Backup type to “Incremental.” This will back up only files that change between backup sessions. The first backup is ALWAYS a full backup containing all the files you select. Subsequent backups will pick only the files that change.
Do your first backups with the default settings, with the Server and Client on the same computer or in the same network. The Evaluation software is the same as our live software, but its default settings are different, optimized for a quick evaluation with the Client and Server inside the same subnet.

Router and Firewall Settings – In 99.9% of installations the Client side requires no router or firewall changes. In order to operate outside its own network the Server’s router and firewall must be configured. This is the single biggest issue you will probably have with your Evaluation.
